Johannesburg – Former Eskom board chair Jabu Mabuza has died.
Media reports indicate that he passed away from Covid-19 related complications.
He was appointed the chairman of the embattled state-owned power utility, Eskom in January 2018.
Mabuza resigned from the power utility in January 2020.
He used his resignation to apologise for Eskom’s inability to meet power demand.
Mabuza’s long business career saw him hold many significant positions both in government and the private sector.
These include having been CEO of Tsogo Sun, president of Business Unity South Africa, chairman of Business Leadership South Africa, chairman of Telkom.
Former President Jacob Zuma in 2016 also tapped him as a co-convenor of the CEO Initiative with the Minister of Finance to assess the state of the South African economy.
Further details remain unclear at this stage.
He is survived by his wife, Siviwe and three children.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
