Johannesburg – Mihlali Ndamase was told to read the room before tweeting incentive content regarding looting on social media yesterday.
She was also accused of inciting violence.
She apologised profusely after making ill-informed jokes about looting Mercedes Benz, in the midst of the unrest in the country.
In a now-deleted tweet, the influencer tweeted: “When are we looting Merc?” which was met with considerable backlash.
In her apology letter, she stated: “With immediate retraction, I’d like to apologise on the tweet I published earlier. I jokingly put that out without considering the harm it may cause given my position. The intent wasn’t to be insensitive.Mercedes Benz is one of my favourite car brands, I adore them, hence the joke. Of course I wouldn’t wish that on any business or person. This is a lesson learned and once again, I sincerely apologise.”
