Johannesburg – Former South African president has been found guilty of being in contempt of court and has been sentenced to 15 months in prison by the Constitutional Court of South Africa.
This comes after Zuma failed to comply with an earlier order in February to obey the Zondo commission’s summons to appear and give evidence.
Zuma said earlier in the year that he would rather go to prison than appear at the Zondo commission.
Take a look at how South Africans reacted to the news on Twitter below:
The imprisonment of @PresJGZuma is totally unacceptable. In fact it is an utter outrage! Now it is our revolutionary democratic right and duty to register our outrage, and resistance to this, in no uncertain terms, and we will! ✊🏾

Sad but proud moment for SA’s democracy: no-one should take pleasure in the sight of a former president going to jail. But the strength of the rule of law and the independence of court is something wonderful to behold. #ConCourt #jacobzuma

Today's judgement is a victory for the Rule of Law in South Africa.
It is clear for all to see that #JacobZuma’s attempts to ignore, undermine and destroy the rule of law will not be tolerated in our democratic society.
Nobody is above the law!
