Seven more people have died of Covid-19, increasing the death toll from 116 to 123 .
This was announced by Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize on Saturday night.
Mkhize also said the infection cases have also ballooned from 5951 to 6336.
He also said the recovery figure had risen from 2 382 to 2549 .
Mkhize said the fatalities were recorded in the Free State and Western Cape.
He also said so far, 230 686 Covid-19 tests were conducted and 13164 of those were done in the last 24 hours.
This is the highest number of tests conducted since the outbreak of the highly infectious disease, he said.
The provincial breakdown is as follows:
Western Cape – 13 deaths and 275 recoveries
Gauteng – 12 deaths and 948 recoveries
KwaZulu-Natal – 34 deaths and 375 recoveries
Eastern Cape – 13 deaths and 275 recoveries
Free State – 6 deaths and 96 recoveries
Limpopo – 2 deaths and 25 recoveries
North West – 0 deaths and 20 recoveries
Mpumalanga – 0 deaths and 18 recoveries
Northern Cape – 0 deaths and 13 recoveries
