Businessman helps youth remember June 16 revolt

Johannesburg – This Youth Month marks 45 years since the 1976 Soweto Uprising, and helping to make this historical day special is Soweto- born real estate businessman TT Mbha.

He will be hosting the youth in a golfing tournament at the Soweto Country Club.

The golf course was built in 1974 by Soweto lovers of golf.

“Many people do not know the history of the Soweto golf course, that it was created by our own. This month, we wish to celebrate the fight and plight of students who fought during the 1976 uprising,” said the 41-year-old Mbha.

“It is time we show that our leaders did not die for nothing or sacrificed their lives for us to not lend a helping hand.”

The proceeds raised on the day will go towards buying non-perishable foods and winter blankets for the Soweto Kliptown Youth Foundation.

Mbha believes in creating opportunities for the youth that were not born while he was a youth.

“This project is close to my heart. Growing up in Soweto we had access to very few sports. I wish to lend a helping hand to better the lives of the youth.

“We plan to host the annual Soweto Youth Golf Day until the youth is off the streets and poverty is alleviated,” he said. Celebrities who have lined up their golfing gear to help support the cause include former soccer player Stanton “Stiga” Fredericks, radio personality Thabo “Tbo Touch” Molefe, and sports analyst Andile Ncube.

“As we remember the youth of 1976, let us be mindful of their struggle and ensure we live to be the manifestation of their dream,” said Mbha.
