A Sandton Police officer was shot and killed while attending to a domestic violence complaint in Sandton, Joburg last night
According to information circulated on Gauteng Police WhatsApp group, Constable Percy Ramalepe (31), rushed to attend a domestic violence complaint at Hluhluwe street in Paulshof at about 10 pm.
When he arrived there, the suspect, an unidentified 60-year-old man, drew a firearm and shot Ramalepe in the chest, killing him instantly.
“The suspect then took the member’s official pistol and shot himself. Suspect is also deceased at the scene. The late member is a 31-year-old and leaves behind a wife who lives in Braamfischer, Soweto and two young daughters, aged 5 years and 1 year-old.,” reads the message.
Ramalepe’s untimely death comes after Minister of Police Bheki Cele said he was worried about the number of domestic violence incidents, which has escalated due to the lockdown.
