“Samma ke thotse show ko Moja Love. Kekgopela o mpostele”. “(My sister I got a new show on Moja Love television channel can you post about it on social media).”
These are some of the last words Vinolia “V-Mash” Mashego told Tsha Mandebele hitmaker, Candy, in their last telephone conversation on March 10, this year.
Mashego was found dead in her Mamelodi home in Tshwane, Gauteng on Monday morning.
Paying her last respects, Candy said the excited Mashego phoned on March 10 and gloated about the new show and said she was on the verge of ruling the television world again.
“She was boasting about this because this was a major achievement for her. She was about to bounce back on TV after being off our screens for so many years. She started off by saying ‘samma’ (my sister) I’m so happy. Itjooo samma kethotse show ko Moja Love. Kethabile kudu, kekgopela ompostele’. You know this how we addressed each other. She didn’t refer to me as Candy and I didn’t call her Vinolia either, instead we called each other ‘samma’,” she said.
Candy said she honoured Mashego’s request by announcing her new gig on social media .
“After I posted, she sent a WhatsApp message and said ’samma ke aleboga’ (Thank you my sister). Little did I know that I was talking to her for the last time. In her, I did not only lose a colleague, but a sister too. I’m so sad. Rest in eternal piece ‘samma’. Till we meet again,” she said, taking a deep breath.
