SABC effects less radio line up changes

The South African Broadcasting Corporation has announced that six of its popular stations won’t be changing its line up in the new radio season.

In a statement issued on Saturday afternoon, the SABC spokeswoman said stations such as Thobela FM, Ukhozi Fm, RSG, Umhlobo Wenene FM, Lotus FM, and Phalaphala FM will not be making any changes to their line-ups.


Group Executive: Radio, Nada Wotshela was quoted saying that e decision to keep the current line up was because the said stations had improved their listenership figures.

“This also serves as indication that the strategies that have been put in place continue to ensure that SABC Radio remains at crest of the airwaves. We are also confident that stability for some of our radio stations will yield positive results,” said Wotshela.

Seapolelo said Ukhozi FM, Mzansi most listened radio station was currently commanding over 7, 6 million listeners, while Thobela FM has seen an increase in listenership diary on diary and all shows indicating substantial growth.

“The station will ensure that the current line-up continues to serve the listeners’ needs,” said Seapolelo.

She said Radio Sonder Grense (RSG) implemented minor changes to its line-up in August 2019 and said due those changes, there will be no line-up changes taking place in April 2020 to maintain continuity and ensure stability.

She said Umhlobo Wenene FM, won’t be making changes except replacing Siphiwo ‘Spitch’ Nzawumbi who has resigned and his last show was on Friday the 13th of March 2020.

At Lotus FM, according to the statement, Alan Khan, the veteran radio personality was the only casualty as he won’t be re-joining the station.

Khan will be replaced by Omeshni Naidoo and the show will be produced by Neelofar Hassen from the 1st of April 2020.

The only change at Phalaphala FM, according to the statement, is that the breakfast show will no longer be co hosted.

The SABC said Mpho Nefale was leaving the show and Terry Mudau will be the only hosting  the morning drive show.

SABC is expected to release another official communication regarding the line up of its commercial stations such as Metro Fm, 5Fm and Radio 2000.
