Ontshiametse Molekoa, who acted in The River, has opened up about a traumatic and life-changing experience that has left him both physically and emotionally scarred.

The rising star, known for his talent and infectious energy, recently survived a terrifying accident in his apartment that nearly cost him his life.

Speaking exclusively to Sunday World, Molekoa recounted the horrifying moments of the incident, which unfolded on a quiet Sunday evening while he was preparing dinner alone at home.

“I had taken out frozen fries and placed oil in a pan on the stove,” he explained. “I stepped away for a few minutes, and when I came back to add the fries, flames suddenly engulfed me. My vision went blank for a second; it all happened so fast.”

Body image concerns

Acting on pure instinct, Molekoa grabbed wet towels and managed to douse the flames before the situation worsened. Smoke alarms went off, and the building’s security team rushed to his aid.

Although shaken and in pain, Molekoa quickly sought medical advice and began treating his burns under the guidance of a doctor.

“The pain was indescribable,” he shared. “It felt like my face was on fire, a fierce, searing sensation that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. In that moment, I realised how fragile life can be.”

The emotional aftermath of the incident has been just as difficult as the physical recovery. He admits that he has been grappling with feelings of vulnerability, fear, and self-consciousness about his appearance.

“There’s the trauma, the shock, the body image concerns, and honestly, the fear of what comes next. It’s been hard, but I’m trying to allow myself to feel everything, to process, to heal.”

Support from family and fans

Despite the ordeal, Molekoa says he has found strength in the unwavering support of his family, friends, colleagues, and fans.

“The love I’ve received has been overwhelming. My family, friends, and colleagues have been there for me, but it’s my fans’ messages that really lifted my spirit. They remind me that I’m not alone.”

While production companies have yet to respond to the incident, Molekoa remains hopeful that when word reaches them, he will receive the support and understanding he needs as he continues to recover.

For now, the actor says his focus is on healing, both physically and spiritually.

“I’m embracing each day as it comes. I’m leaning on my faith, rebuilding my confidence, and trusting God’s plan. I know that in time, I’ll come back even stronger,” he said.
