The family of actress and TV presenter Londiwe Nene has confirmed that she will be laid to rest on Saturday, October 18, in her hometown of Makhosini Vale in Ulundi, North of Kwa-Zulu-Natal. The funeral will commence at 10am.
Nene, who was 35-years-old, died in Johannesburg on Saturday, October 11, in what the family suspects to be a suicide by poison.
Known to have been bubbly, fun, full of life, and a talented actress, the Nene family is shocked by the idea of Londiwe possibly taking her own life.
Family still in shock
“It is still a shock today to know we won’t get to see her again. But all we want to do is bury her with dignity like the person she was,” Lethukuthula Nene told Sunday World.
The grieving family said she died after consuming a poisonous substance. After rushing her to the hospital, she did not make it.
“As a family, we are deeply heartbroken by the loss. And we kindly ask for privacy as we navigate through this time of sorrow. Your understanding, compassion, and prayers mean a great deal to us. This as we find strength and comfort in one another,” the Nene family said.
Lethukuthula added that the death of former Moja Love prankster on the Bheka Sik’bambile show was unexpected.
“We will miss her jokes and her fun character. She loved the limelight and acting, and TV presenting was her passion.”
Industry colleagues pay tribute
Londiwe played Thuli on the teen telenovela, Youngins. She acted as Rachel Ndlovu on the show Aunties, where she shot with Pula Bakgaga Media. She also had a stint on the drama series Adulting.
Friends and colleagues have shared their tributes and memories of the late TV presenter. Ukhozi FM presenter Phumlane “DJ Sqemeza” Mbatha spoke fondly about her. He remembers her as a passionate actress who was sure about her place in show business.
“She joined us at our Johannesburg studios during my afternoon drive time tenure alongside Sbo Fokol. From the start, she made it clear that her true passion was in television rather than radio. Rest in peace, mkhaya. My heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.”
