Bianca Naidoo on finding joy and keeping Ricky Rick’s legacy alive

Bianca Naidoo, the partner of the late singer Rikhado Makhado, who was popularly known as Riky Rick, has shared that she is finally starting to find joy and is okay with being happy.

Naidoo, in an interview on Mpumi Ledwaba’s Wisdom & Wellness podcast, said Riky Rick taught her a lot and she was able to take guidance from him. When they met, she was working in an advertising agency and fell pregnant shortly after. And their son Mike was born.

“When Mike turned two, Riky asked me to join him. We were not sure whether it was going to work or not, but it worked. Working together was the best experience ever. It taught me a lot about work ethic, and it felt like we were building something together,” said Naidoo.

Still dealing with Ricky Rick’s death

Regarding her journey of overcoming his death, Naidoo said sometimes it feels like it is new. She takes it one day at a time, trying to figure it out. Naidoo also shared that she started attending therapy for the first time last year.

“I overthink certain things because I work on many of Riky’s legacy things. It is hard and it is very new. There is not a day or a moment that goes by that I don’t think of him in things that I do. Every moment is having to go through all those things and you just have to get through it.”

Naidoo said sometimes she does not think she has started grieving or is able to define what it is. Because sometimes she will have her good moments and moments where she totally shuts down.

Guilt of him missing out on his kids’ lives

“Grief is losing someone, and when I lost my dad when I was 19, that was so different to losing a partner. A partner becomes your best friend. You talk and do everything with them. And when there are kids involved there is a lot of guilt that goes into that other person not being around.”

She adds that, being a private person, she takes time to warm up to people. She struggles with going out in public because she always felt like she was being judged by people.
