Tearaway hip-hop artist Shebeshxt has launched a veiled attack against Polokwane mayor John Mpe, saying that he has still not received documentation of his late daughter’s foundation despite the politician’s promise to have it established about two months ago.
The Limpopo-based larrikin also claimed that he was drowning in a cesspool of debt as a result of his one-man show The Return of Shebeshxt, organised by Mpe’s non-profit organisation, Makoro Foundation.
Shebeshxt claimed that some people, without mentioning names, were piggybacking on the death of his late daughter Onthatile for their own narrow selfish interests.
The Ambulance hitmaker made the startling claims in a series of posts on his Facebook page on Tuesday.
In the posts, the musician claims that he has not received papers for his daughter’s foundation, On Thatile Foundation, despite Mpe’s commitment to have it established.
Shebeshxt, born Lehlogonolo Chauke, said he was struggling to make ends meet and was more than a million rand in debt because he was advised not to take bookings ahead of his one-man show because that was going to sabotage the event.
“I was R2-million in debt. But my debts are now over R1 million after making R500 000 from The Return of Shebeshxt and from donations to my daughter’s foundation, for which I still don’t have documentation,” he stated.
The rapper, who has been on the wrong side of the law for beating up patrons or pointing firearms at people, said although he always pretended to be fine, he is struggling to keep the wolf from the door.
“Since my discharge from hospital, it seems as though I have money, but I have no dime.
“My biggest regret after being discharged from the hospital was taking people’s advice not to take gigs because doing so would sabotage the The Return of Shebeshxt show.
“Worse, at the time, I owed promoters who had booked me before the accident a lot of
money,” he said.
The artist said despite being financially in the red, he still has to pay back the impresarios for all the shows he missed after the car crash in which his daughter lost her life.
“They used my daughter’s name to focus on The Return of Shebeshxt, which only gave me R500 000; now I’m left with debts.”
Shebeshxt, who is popularly known as President Ya Ma2000, said he was pouring his heart out not because he wanted public sympathy but because he was tired of living like a clay-footed celebrity.
“Now the same people who ill-advised me want nothing to do with me. I’m saying this not because I want you to sympathise with me; I’m just expressing how I feel because my heart is bleeding, especially because my daughter’s name has been used for wrong reasons,” he lamented.
The musician was involved in a horrible accident outside Polokwane while driving to a gig in Lebowakgomo early this year.
His daughter Onthatile lost her life, while his girlfriend Kholofelo Chuene sustained minor injuries to her head.
The musician was rushed to Polokwane Provincial Hospital but was transferred to a private facility, Netcare Pholoso Hospital, after EFF leader Julius Malema intervened and paid his medical bill, which amounted to hundreds of thousands.
