Chef Letlape murder case transferred back to high court

The case against Sibusiso Zitha, the killer of “pastry princess” Chef Thembekile Letlape, has been transferred back to the Johannesburg High Court.

This comes after the case was sent back to the Randburg magistrate’s court for further investigations and evidence.

In November, the docket remained with the director of public prosecutions, and the case was rescheduled for additional investigation.

Zitha appeared at the Randburg magistrate’s court on Monday, and the magistrate postponed the matter to the Johannesburg High Court on May 2.

Indictment has been served

Speaking to Sunday World, Zitha’s attorney, Nthabiseng Dubazana from Dubazana Attorneys, said an indictment has been served, referring to the charge sheet for the high court.

“We do not have a copy of the docket as yet; as such, we are not ready. Once the state has given the docket to us, then we will see what it is we are facing. For now, we just wait for our first appearance in the high court,” said Dubazana.

In October, Zitha stated in his bail affidavit that he understood the ramifications of his confession and that he intended to enter a guilty plea to the charges.

The accused has been incarcerated since June after Letlape was discovered dead on May 30, 2024, at Zitha’s home in Fourways, Johannesburg.

Intoxicated on the day of the mruder

Zitha stated in his confession that Letlape confronted him while he was reading a book and sipping wine on the patio the day of the murder.

According to Zitha, Letlape yelled and made derogatory comments about his deceased parents.

Zitha also stated in his confession that Letlape experienced mood swings and depression.

They were both intoxicated the entire day of the murder, and Letlape’s mood deteriorated as the hours went by, he said.
