Deli Malinga, who starred in Umkhokha: The Curse, has revealed that she has received a nomination for the Ladies of the Media Awards, which will be held in Kenya.
However, she revealed that she will cover her own travel costs to the awards ceremony in eastern Africa.
Malinga is a nominee for the African Female Actor Award for her performance as Thenjiwe MaMzobe Gumede in the now-canceled Rhythm World telenovela.
The former Generations star expressed her gratitude for being one of the people honoured on the continent.
I wish I can get sponsors
“I just see God in all of this. To all of you out there who appreciated my work from day one and supported me throughout my acting journey. I am because of you,” she wrote on Facebook.
“Thank you so much, [I am] not only representing Umlazi D, Durban film office, KZN Film Commission, Umkhokha: The Curse production and producers, Mzansi Magic or MultiChoice, but South Africa as a whole.
“This is a big announcement; the sad part is that participating will be fully on me. I wish I could get sponsors to go to Kenya.”
The final episode of Umkhokha on Friday left Mzansi in complete shock and stunned viewers.
Many viewers had hoped for a happy ending, which briefly appeared possible when MaMzobe and MaNzimande’s vow of forgiveness in front of Amajudiya (church members) marked the beginning of a long-awaited truce.
More questions than answers
However, the curse unexpectedly reappeared with full force, leading to MaMzobe and Mabusi’s tragic deaths.
Many people believe that Mabusi’s defiance of Mthembu’s repeated orders not to disturb Mzobe’s body sealed her fate.
Even though viewers adored MaMzobe as the antagonist, her demise seemed certain. However, no one could have predicted the heartbreak of the tragic conclusion.
People were left with more questions than answers after the last scene, where Vulindlela feels as though his mother has passed away, and the final showing shot of him holding an ancestral bag called an iskhwama.
