The family of legendary journalist Derek Watts has asked his fans to rather donate to his daughter Kirsty Watts’ foundation.
“As we continue to celebrate Derek Watts’ life, his family has asked that those who wish to show their support instead make a donation towards the Kirsty Watts Foundation.
“They wish to thank everyone for the many gifts and flowers received so far,” reads a Facebook post by his daughter.
The Kirsty Watts Foundation is a non-profit, public benefit organisation that is financially administered within a trust by Sentinel Management Services.
It was initiated by Kirsty when she was 14 years old during her treatment and recovery from a malignant brain tumour.
She wanted to help children less fortunate than herself and has managed to fund many projects to do just that over the years.
Kirsty paid tribute to her father with a series of pictures.
She wrote: “My dad, my superhero, my best friend, my biggest role model, my everything.
A memorial service for Watts will be held at 11am on Thursday. It will be streamed live as it is a private event for family and Watts’ close friends.
MultiChoice wrote in a statement: “It is the wishes of the family for a private in-person gathering for family and close family friends.”
