Award-winning producers and DJs Kabza De Small and Maphorisa are aiming to fill the Loftus Stadium in Pretoria with more than 51 000 guests when they host a concert on August 29.
During the concert, the duo will honour jazz legend Caiphus Semenya, whose sounds have influenced their music.
After recently unveiling a powerhouse line-up through their Meet Our Friends series, the Scorpion Kings duo have teased a fifth bonus episode to announce none other than Afrobeats sensation Davido.
The multi-award-winning Afrobeats icon will join them at the concert, bringing his global hits and electric stage presence.
“Davido is family. Having him with us makes this a truly continental moment,” said DJ Maphorisa.
Kabza De Small added that they plan to make history. “We’ve built this line-up to be history-making, and Davido is the perfect final piece.”
Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa also recently visited legendary composer and musician Caiphus Semenya to show their appreciation.
In a special moment, on August 29, Semenya will be honoured live at the concert.
Tribute to a living legend
This is to pay tribute to the living legend and cement the event as a celebration of African artistry across generations, and not just a show.
“It is an honour to be appreciated by the younger generation,” Semenya told Sunday World. “It means we did something right, and our music still has an impact.”
Fans are also expected to get a taste of a remix of Semenya’s timeless songs by the Scorpion Kings.
“It will be a reimagined blend of the richness of South African musical heritage with the pulse of today’s Amapiano.”
The pre-show stage will feature performances by 25K, Ba Bethe Ga Shoazen, Banques, Blxckie, Christos, DBN Gogo, Dihno, Dlala Thukzin, Venom, and Vinny Da Vinci, creating a full-day music experience before the main event.
The main stage will feature Ami Faku, Aymos, Bontle Smith, Cassper Nyovest, Daliwonga, Davido, Focalistic, Kamo Mphela, Kwesta, Mafikizolo, Mawhoo, Mlindo The Vocalist, Msaki, Mthunzi, Njelic, Nkosazana Daughter, Nokwazi, Oskido, Phila Dlozi, Ricky Lenyora, Sizwe Alakine, Sjava, Thatohatsi, Tracy, Uhuru, Umthakathi Kush, Uncool MC, and Young Stunna.
