‘Emtee is addicted to drug called lean’ – rapper Molley

Rapper J. Molley, real name Jesse Mollett, dubbed fellow rapper Emtee as “addicted to lean” in a video he recently posted to social media.

In the video clip, Mollett said Emtee, whose real name is Mthembeni Ndevu, was high on lean. He said as a result he could not deliver in the studio, which is why their planned collaboration fell through.

According to the artist, who has been embracing his newfound faith, he called Emtee and booked a studio session. He also provided transport and food for him. However, he failed to produce any songs.

Drug made from cough syrup

Lean or purple drank (known by numerous local and street names) is a polysubstance drink used as a recreational drug. It is prepared by using prescription-grade cough or cold syrup. The syrup contains an opioid drug and an anti-histamine drug. It’s  mixed with a soft drink and sometimes hard candy.

“I bought lean for them so they can geek out and have fun. Because Emtee is leaning on the sh*t hard. I had three sessions with Emtee last week; he could not even write one bar,” said Mollett.

He further said he would leave Emtee in the studio, giving him enough time to work on his part of the music. But to his surprise, when he came back, he had written four bars.

“He wrote four bars in two hours and two of the lines rhyme with each other. For the last three times that I tried to do sessions with him, I paid for everything. I bought them KFC, and I paid for the transport because I think they don’t have money. So I paid and bought them lean. Emtee is addicted to lean,” he added.

According to Mollett, Emtee is either swearing at his fans on social media or he is sleeping.

Addiction is affecting his music career
“That is what he does best! Swearing at his fans, showing them his… I do not know what he is showing them. He has not even come with any witty comments; he is just always swearing. [Mtee] is not even saying anything that is smart in these social media lives.”

In June, Molley posted on his Instagram account, threatening to take his own life.

He later issued an apology to his followers, who might have been distressed by the ordeal.

Raising awareness of men’s mental health awareness month, the rapper responded. He posted a video to Instagram refuting suggestions that the posts were publicity stunts for him or his brand.
