Media personality and singer Khaya Mthethwa and Rorisang Thandekiso have been chosen to host the 16th Crown Gospel Music Awards.
The awards will take place on Sunday in a 10 000-seater dome marque which will be erected inside the FNB Stadium near Soweto.
More than 300 gospel artists, producers, celebrities and members of the media will attend the gold-carpet event, which will also be beamed live on TV.
In the build-up to the awards ceremony at the calabash, the organisers had been hard at work conducting community workshops and a gospel music talent search in selected areas.
These took place in Kagiso Memorial, Sebokeng – AFM Church, Daveyton – Rhoo Hlatshwayo Centre, Diepsloot – Methodist Church, and North Saulsville Arena.
Mthethwa brings a wealth of experience to the awards, having previously hosted the event.
He is also a talented artist and award-winning performer, and will add another layer of excitement to the annual gospel music event.
Desire to keep awards in Gauteng
Thandekiso is a singer, TV host, and media personality who brings a fresh and vibrant energy to the awards.
Together, Mthethwa and Thandekiso will keep the audience engaged and entertained.
Executive producer of the awards Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule said: “We are bringing collecting agencies, personal branding specialists, entertainment lawyers, and music coaches.
“The talent search will also see the winners getting an opportunity to perform at the Crown Gospel Music Awards’ stage.”
Gauteng arts, culture, sport and recreation MEC Morakane Mosupyoe called upon Gauteng-based artists to take full advantage of the workshops.
“As Gauteng, we are honoured to host The Crowns. I am blown away by the level of excellence displayed here and the talent that has been on stage,” said Mosupyoe.
“As Gauteng, we would really love to keep The Crowns for another seven years.”
Before it was moved to the FNB Stadium, the awards ceremony was expected to take place at Orlando Stadium.
