DJ Sumbody’s family elated Ayepyep is back in their hands

After closing its doors temporarily in August, the Ayepyep Lifestyle in Cape Town is gearing up to resume business come Friday.

The developments come after DJ Sumbody’s former business partner Kagiso Setsetse sold his 50% stake in the business.

In recent months, the establishment has been at the centre of a highly publicised dispute that involved Setsetse.

DJ Sumbody’s family (the Sefokas) and alleged 28 gang leader’s [Ralph Stanfield] mother-in-law, Barbara Johnson, now own the remaining stake.

Sunday World reported over a month ago that Setsetse had opened a criminal case against Stanfield for hijacking Ayepyep.

Setsetse also pressed criminal charges against Stanfield’s wife Nicole Johnson, her cousin Saadiq Peterson, and the alleged gangster’s employee Warren Dennis.

The case was opened at the Brooklyn police station in Pretoria and was transferred to the Cape Town central police station for investigation.

Setsetse alleged previously that on April 9, he and his wife, together with their two sons, travelled to Dubai intending to return to South Africa on April 20.

He said he was scared to return to the country after he allegedly received death threats from Stanfield on April 10.

In a statement announcing the reopening of the establishment, the Sefokas said they are happy that the establishment has returned to the family, its rightful owners.

Koketso Sefoka, spokesperson for the family, said: “Preserving my brother’s legacy has been at the heart of our relentless pursuit of justice.

“Ayepyep isn’t just a venue, it’s a living tribute to his passion, creativity, and dedication to the vibrant culture of Cape Town’s social scene.

“As Ayepyep Lifestyle Cape Town returns to our family after a lengthy battle, we’re inviting patrons to join us in honouring and celebrating my brother’s vision and legacy.”

Sefoka said as their quest for justice continues, the Ayepyep Lifestyle Menlyn and The Secret Door stand as the next chapters in the family’s mission to reclaim and preserve the legacy of DJ Sumbody.
