Gospel singer Xolly Mncwango launches cancer foundation

Gospel singer Xolly Mncwango has decided to spread the gospel beyond his music. She recently launched the Xolly Mncwango Foundation to help spread cancer awareness and empower communities with education, and create opportunities for those in need.

The idea of the foundation came after losing her grandmother to breast cancer a few years ago.

“My world shifted when my grandmother passed,” she told Sunday World.

“I lost someone who meant everything to me. She was a pillar in my life, teaching me prayer, dignity, giving, and faith. Her love shaped who I am, but her passing left a mark on my soul that I carry to this day.”

Ncwango said she felt it was her duty to spread awareness and educate others on the disease. Especially those form previously disadvantaged backgrounds with little to no knowledge on cancer.

“I realised that we cannot wait for the government or someone else to act. We are the help we are praying for,” she said.

“We are the change our communities are waiting for. And that is why today, with a heart full of obedience and courage, [I am doing this].”

Inspire, educate, spread awareness

She launched the Xolly Mncwango Foundation at a gathering at Universal Music Group. The launch brought like-minded people together. She received support from the likes of Dr Nthabiseng Makgana, the CEO of Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, close friends. Most importantly, breast cancer survivors were brough in to share their stories.

“Everyone I have met during this journey of launching the foundation made me more aware that everyone is just going through something. It’s not just breast cancer alone, but the faithfulness of God in everything is beyond amazing,” she told Sunday World.

Mncwango said her vision was to empower individuals and create educational platforms to inspire and impact future generations.

“Through this foundation, I wish for us to educate communities and restore dignity. Through faith, support, resources, and opportunities.”
