Khumalo and Molise join new revamped season of ‘Muvhango’

Following media reports indicating that SABC 2’s long-running television series Muvhango was coming to an end, the show unveiled an exciting new chapter at a special event in Fourways, Johannesburg.

The new Muvhango season promises to take viewers on an enthralling journey of authentic African storytelling. Shooting has been going on for about three weeks now. But when the new season will air on screen is not yet known.

Duma Ndlovu, the executive producer, said he saw the need for a brand new revamped Muvhango. And he has made sure that the show does not lose its DNA. He also shared that he saw the need to bring in new characters and bring back old ones to revive the show.

Celebration of show’s legacy

Muvhango Lives On, represents not just a new beginning, but a celebration of the show’s legacy. We are dedicated to staying true to our roots while embracing change. And we are excited to present our audience with a Muvhango that reflects the rich diversity and compelling narratives of modern South Africa,” said Ndlovu.

Among the thrilling announcements is the introduction of a notable new character, Dr Nonhlanhla Ximba. The character is portrayed by Leleti Khumalo. Khumalo is a legendary, highly recognisable, and much-loved figure from the film industry.

Leleti Khumalo excited to be back on screen

Dr. Ximba’s enigmatic presence as a construction mogul is set to disrupt the familiar landscape of Muvhano. It will pave the way for unprecedented intrigue and groundbreaking storytelling.

Speaking to Sunday World, Khumalo said she is excited to be back on SABC. This is where she started her small screen performances on Generations.

“When I got this role, I said, ‘why not go back home?’ I had to ask myself if I was making a mistake. But joining the show is like finding a home that is fully furnished and warm and everything. It is not going to be easy and I definitely need to dig deeper inside. I am going to be playing a character that I have never played before, which is amazing. Because, as actors, we are always looking for challenges,” said Khumalo.

Teboho the villain makes a return

Lesotho-born actress Liteboho Molise is making a comeback on the show. She was well known for her villain role of Teboho. And this time the actress is set to bring in more trouble and drama.

She portrayed the role of Teboho on Muvhango from May 2012 to August 2021. And her character evolved from a domestic worker to the mayor’s wife, with aspirations of getting into chieftaincy.

“It has been tough in the sense that it has been busy, but it does feel different. This time it is going to be different, and everybody has changed. It is lovely and fast-paced. There is a lot going on and it feels like a brand-new show. And I am excited to be back,” said Molise.
