The late American rapper and songwriter Christopher George Latore Wallace, better known as The Notorious B.I.G., Biggie Smalls, or simply Biggie, would have turned 50 on May 21.
Widely considered as one of the greatest rappers of all time, he was fatally shot at the age of 24 in 1997. This year also marks the 25 year anniversary of his tragic death.
His estate has shared his first single in 17 years, G.O.A.T. which features Ty Dolla Sign and Nigerian R&B singer Bella Alubo.
The Afrobeat-inspired song repurposes Biggie’s lyrics from the song I Love The Dough, a 1997 collaboration with rapper Jay-Z, taken from his studio album Life After Death.
Biggie’s mother, Voletta Wallace, told Complex.com that it was wonderful to witness her son’s music reimagined for his fans and today’s generation of young men and women to embrace his art.
“I appreciate the hard work of all involved in bringing together the perfect blend of voices and music to this song, ‘G.O.A.T,’” she told the magazine.
