PJ Morton coming to Mzansi to mentor ‘Idols SA’ contestants

American Grammy award-winning R&B musician and producer PJ Morton is expected to serenade South Africans when he performs on the Idols SA stage.

Morton will perform as a guest mentor to one of the top four contestants of the show’s season finale.

As a guest mentor, PJ Morton will coach the contestants on their stage performance and  their overall goals to become recording artists, imparting wisdom and knowledge.

The performance will be live on October 14 2023.

The “Please Don’t Walk Away” hitmaker said he is ecstatic to be one of the musicians who will be mentoring the young talent to become their best versions of artists.

“I’m looking forward to connecting with and mentoring these young artists who have a bright future ahead of them,” he said.

“I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve to bring something different to my segment.”

His Idols announcement forms part of the work he will be doing with artists and musicians from across the continent, and comes ahead of his inaugural South Africa tour where he is set to host two concerts.

Morton will be supported by a 12-piece band including singers and a horn section at his show on October 6 in Cape Town and later in Johannesburg.

On his performance, he said: “I’m excited for my live shows in South Africa. I’ve been wanting to connect with my fanbase for a while. My Idols performance will be something special.”

Idols SA is a musical talent show that made its debut in 2002 and is airing its final season titled “iLast Number”.

The show has also been moved from its normal Sunday slot to Saturday evenings on Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 161) at 6pm and on Mzansi Wethu (DStv channel 163) at 7.30pm.

In the past two decades, it has introduced different voices to the world, launched countless careers, and changed judges and big names attached to it.
