As Skeem Saam Season 13 gets closer to the finale, the Turfloop community is bracing itself for a shake-up with the return of the iconic character Rachel Kunutu and her estranged husband, Marothi Maphuthuma.
Lesego Marakalla reprises her role as the original slay queen, Rachel, whose dramatic exit in 2020 left fans reeling. Now, her comeback on June 10, alongside Marothi’s reappearance on June 13, promises to set the drama series ablaze with intrigue, betrayal, and unresolved tensions.
Disappearing act
Rachel Kunutu, the self-proclaimed pioneer of the soft life, vanished from Turfloop five years ago. That was after fleecing Marothi’s fortune and framing him for her “death”.
Her sudden departure left Marothi, portrayed by Macks Senatla SaGa PAPO, grappling with public scorn and financial ruin. Now, Rachel struts back into town, trailed by a cloud of mystery and dangerous new alliances.
From June 14, viewers will uncover her ties to shady characters like Archie Nhlapo, aka “Lord of the Flies”. Also the enigmatic “Ghost”, played by multitalented rapper Tshepo Howza Mosese.
Marakalla teases: “It feels good to be back. My supporters have been asking for Rachel’s return, and they are in for a treat. She is bringing drama like never before.”
Meanwhile, Marothi is now a culturally rebranded entrepreneur running a printing empire and the Turf Talent Extravaganza. He has spent years haunted by Rachel’s betrayal. Once passionately dubbing her his “Dynamite”, Marothi is now at the crossroads. Will he seek revenge for her deceit, or does his heart still yearn for reconciliation?
Thrilled to be back
Macks Senatla SaGa PAPO shares his excitement. “I am thrilled to be back and can’t wait to tell more compelling stories. Marothi’s journey is far from over.”
His return on June 13 sets the stage for a showdown that could either mend or shatter their fractured bond.
This season has already gripped viewers with the tragic death of Smaki, a Turf High learner. Also the ensuing chaos that tore Turfloop apart.
As the community rebuilds, Rachel and Marothi’s return adds fuel to an already smouldering fire.
