e.tv is turning up the heat this April with the launch of Emzini, a gripping new township drama set to pull viewers into a world where ambition, loyalty and long-buried secrets collide.
Premiering on April 13 at 9pm, the series promises a high-stakes storyline anchored by a formidable cast and layered characters navigating the cost of power and legacy.
Emzini Lounge
Set against the vibrant yet unforgiving backdrop of Alexandra township, the story unfolds at Emzini Lounge, a thriving lifestyle hotspot owned by an influential Nkosi family.
While the venue stands as a symbol of success in the community, it quickly becomes the battleground for a simmering family war as betrayals surface and tensions reach breaking point.
Strong cast
At the centre of the storm is Shaka Nkosi, played by Wiseman Ncube, the respected yet feared eldest son who finds himself torn between protecting the family empire and confronting the painful truths of his past.
His quest to take control of Emzini is complicated by revelations about his paternity, secrets that threaten to shake the foundation of everything he believes.
Veteran actress Khabonina Qhubeka delivers a fierce performance as Dudu Nkosi, the iron-willed matriarch who built the business through grit and ruthless determination.
Protective to a fault, Dudu’s grip on her empire and her secrets risks alienating those closest to her.
Meanwhile, Muzi Mathabela steps into the role of Zakhele Nkosi, a retired police captain whose authority has long shaped both his family and the Alexandra community.
The power struggle
But when the truth about Shaka’s origins comes to light, Zakhele’s world begins to unravel, igniting a bitter and dangerous power struggle.
Adding emotional weight to the narrative is Dumisani Mbebe as Panyaza Fakude, a man fresh out of prison after serving 25 years for a crime tied to the Nkosi family.
His return opens old wounds and unfinished business, as he seeks redemption and a chance to reconnect with the son he left behind.
The next generation of the Nkosi clan brings its own tensions. Tyson Mathonsi portrays Bandile, the calculating middle son determined to prove his worth, while Manqoba Khumalo takes on the role of Junior, the carefree youngest brother whose dreams of becoming a DJ are disrupted by the harsh realities of family conflict.
On the other side of the divide are the Modise sisters, whose lives have been shaped by tragedy. Bokang Phelane plays Rorisang Modise, a principled young woman fighting to rebuild her life after her father’s murder plunged her family into poverty.
Alongside her is Thuso Mokoena as Oratilwe, an aspiring musician chasing fame as a means of escape, unaware of how deeply her fate is intertwined with the Nkosi family.
Motshabi Tyelele rounds out the family as Nhlokomeleng Modise, a grieving widow burdened by guilt and loss, holding onto faith as she struggles to restore dignity to her fractured household.
Story of survival and redemption
The series also leans into its rich supporting cast, with Nomsa Buthelezi as the spiritually grounded Gogo Ongabizw’ngegama, alongside Bhuhle Moletsane and Nozi Langa as ambitious young women trying to carve out their own futures.
Injecting humour and flair is Tumi “Stopnonsons” Matila as Marinade, a flamboyant waiter with dreams of becoming a fashion icon, a character that adds levity while reflecting the aspirations of township youth.
At its heart, Emzini is more than just a family drama, it is a story of survival, redemption and the far-reaching consequences of the choices we make.
