Shaka Ilembe star Nomzamo Mbatha bags awards

Actress and humanitarian Nomzamo Mbatha has won two accolades at the Cultural and Creative Industry Awards (CCIA).

The weekend’s festivities were held at Johannesburg’s Sandton Convention Centre.

Mbatha walked away with the Best International Act for an Artist representing South Africa, the Special Minister’s Award, and Outstanding Television Drama- Shaka Ilembe.

In addition to producing the show, the actress who portrayed Nandi, the mother of Shaka, claimed that she is awful at accepting gifts because she rarely wins in life.

After it debuted last year, Shaka iLembe—the biography of the legendary African king—has drawn enormous crowds.

It tells the story of the king’s development from early childhood to adulthood.

On her Instagram, the former Isibaya actress thanked all those who shine a light on her hard work and dedication to the arts.

“Please bear with me. These are new feelings I’m feeling of sheer pride and gratitude. We often only celebrate the unit of measure that’s set by the west, but there is absolutely no greater feeling than being seen and honoured by your own people,” she shared.

She said she will always remember the feeling of being celebrated in her country of birth.

“I am swimming in a sea of thankfulness. Thank you to the Department & Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr Zizi Kodwa, to the incredible jury of the Cultural and Creative Industry Awards and all who continue to shine a light on my work and little me,” said Mbatha who played in one of the biggest international shows, Coming to America.

Recently, she received a Forbes award as an entertainer. “It all feels like a dream. I will hold on to this feeling for a mighty long time.”

Meanwhile, Grammy award winner and songwriter Tyla walked away with the Best International Act. The water hitmaker said being South African overseas is a flex.
