‘Six in the City’ is a feel good film about friendship

Starring South African actors, Six in the City, a comedy about male friendships, has all the flavour to make it relatable to the viewer. A private screening took place on Thursday in Hyde Park, Johannesburg.

Some of the actors are no strangers in the entertainment industry, including the likes of veteran comedian Joey Rasdien, Kagiso Modupe, Seputla Sebogodi, Pearl Modiadie, Anton David Jeftha and Xolani Mayekiso.

It is the first of three movies from Indigenous Films that Viu will exclusively debut as its original in 2023.

Country Manager at Viu South Africa Ryan Solovei said, the viewers can expect a great but modern buddy movie that highlights deep male friendships and the crazy fun that boys like to have.

“This movie delves into the lead characters’ inability to express or talk about emotional issues, while at the same time celebrating their comradery and ‘ride or die’ support for each other.

“We hope to work closer with more local filmmakers to find a home for more original quality content from the region. This deal with Indigenous Films is only the beginning,” said Solovei.

Director Star Kganki Mphahlele, 33, said the film is about friendship, loyalty, honesty and maturity.

He further said he wanted to focus on the human emotions underlying the comedic nature of the film.

“I wanted the film to be easy on the eye, slick and funny. We have so few great buddy movies in South Africa, so I was excited to be able to add to the genre.”
