Thuli P merges amapiano with gqom to create new music genre

Popular DJ and actress Thulisile Phongolo has launched a new musical genre called 2Faced.

The former Generations: The Legacy star announced the latest move of her music career on her social media pages.

Recently, Phongolo took to Instagram and said the music genre is called 2Faced because it is about merging two unique South African genres [amapiano and gqom) in a collaborative way that allows both genres to shine.

“In ancient Roman mythology, Janus, the god of beginnings and transitions, gazed in two opposite directions, symbolising the duality of time, doorways, and endings,” she said.

“Just as Janus presided over the ebb and flow of conflict, 2Faced brings together two distinct musical genres, amapiano and gqom, in a harmonious fusion.”

The DJ, who has made a name for herself in the music industry, worked with Slenda da dancing DJ, an iconic dancer-turned-gqom DJ.

Embrace duality of the sound

“Together, we bridge the gap between two powerful musical worlds, seamlessly blending the beats and rhythms of amapiano with the raw energy of gqom.

“People must prepare to be enticed by this unique experience where two genres unite on stage, creating a mesmerizing musical fusion. Embrace the duality of the sound and embark on this music journey.

“Ensuring both sounds mix well together is key. Slenda da DJ is a professional dancer and I’m just meeting her halfway for vibes to have fun,” said Phongolo.

She added that since their videos started trending on social media platforms, they have been getting booked.

In one of the videos, the DJs are playing and dancing to the music to keep their audience entertained.

Amagig angenayo [the bookings we have been receiving)! Weeeeemaaaah Siyabonga [Oh my gosh, thank you]. Let me go practise my moves because we’re moving.”
