Radio stations have started ringing in changes by announcing new line-ups, and Siya Mhlongo, who was on Ukhozi FM, had his mic switched off following allegations of assault and stabbing in 2024.
During Monday morning’s 6am to 9am breakfast show, acting business manager Busani Mthembu announced the station’s new 2025/2026 lineup, which does not include Mhlongo.
After leaving Ukhozi FM in the middle of his afternoon drive show in 2022, Mhlongo returned to South Africa’s biggest radio station in 2023.
This came after he was hired by Metro FM, a commercial radio station.
Health concerns
Mhlongo denied rumours that his departure was brought on by impending changes at the radio station, citing health concerns as the reason for his departure.
At Metro FM, Mhlongo joined seasoned broadcaster Thami Ngubeni as co-host of Sacred Space, a crowd-pulling Sunday morning gospel show.
Mhlongo will be replaced by Nkosinathi Mshengu for the 8pm-12am slot from Monday to Thursday.
Making a return to the station is actress and broadcaster Sthandwa Nzuza, who will be on the Saturday line-up from 6pm to 9pm.
Tshatha Ngobe replaced
Nzuza has always expressed that she would make a return to radio when the time is right.
She will be replacing Samkelo Khetha Gwala, who has hosted the show for the past 12 months.
Vusizwe Langa, who is a well-known Isizulu newsreader, is also returning to join the weekend line-up, where he will take the slot currently occupied by Tshatha Ngobe on Saturday from 9am to 12pm.
Gospel artist and presenter Phindile Phewa, who is popularly known as Phindi P, will take over the late Zanele Mbokazi’s gospel show Eshilo, which airs on Sundays.
