Leading online retailer Superbalist has announced its upcoming collaboration with fashion designer Orapeleng Modutle.
Modutle has gained success and popularity by dressing some of the biggest stars on the red carpet and creating show-stopping bridal gowns.
Modutle will now be taking on a new journey by creating a limited ready-to-wear collection with Superbalist.
Born in Kimberley in the Northern Cape, Modutle’s love for fashion was formed at an early age as he watched and learned from his mother and grandmother who were both seamstresses.
Childhood memories
“My creative abilities derive from early childhood with my mother and grandmother sewing when I was younger, which sparked an interest in me to also develop the skill,” said Modutle.
“As I grew up, I had a natural and unique eye for identifying forms, colours, patterns, and detail. This introduced me to my passion.”
Having spent most of his career designing custom garments, Modutle believes that the range will give more consumers access to his work.
“I want to give South African women a touch of the Orapeleng Modutle magic for that very special occasion they will be attending this summer. With styles that suit all occasions, there is definitely something for everyone.”
The new collection will present a line of ready-to-wear attire featuring both dramatic and timeless silhouettes.
It exudes opulence through its exaggerated elements, like cascading trains and billowing sleeves. The collection boasts an extensive array of styles including dresses, jumpsuits, and skirts.
It also incorporates a rich tapestry of fabrics and embellishments including metallics, diamante, lace, and sequins, making it an ideal choice for special occasions and festive gatherings.
Celebrating a decade of style
Modutle’s Style Avenue and Superbalist will both be turning 10 this year. Both brands believe the collaboration is a great way to celebrate a decade of style.
“As I celebrate a decade in the fashion industry, it makes perfect sense to collaborate on a special collection with Superbalist,” said Modutle.
“Our consumers have been demanding a ready-to-wear offering and this is the beginning of our ready-to-wear journey.”
As the country’s leading online fashion retailer curating styles from top local and international brands, Superbalist felt Orapeleng was a natural fit.
David Cohen, Superbalist’s CEO, said they pride themselves in curating the best brands and styles, which is why Modutle was a no-brainer.
“He’s built an incredible brand which is known for its craftsmanship and that stood out about him,” said Cohen.
“We are excited to give South Africans access to a collection that was designed and produced locally.”
The collection will launch on November 2 and is exclusively available on Superbalist.
The campaign features Kefilwe Mabote and Sarah Langa, two stars that Modutle has designed extravagant looks for over the years.
