Phalaborwa Spring Carnival organizers say they will not hesitate to unleash their lawyers on Limpopo megastar King Monada if he fails to show up for their event on Saturday night or pay their refund.
The aye kuwa hitmaker met his match this week when he announced to his fans that he will not be coming to the music festival, which is set to take place at the Impala Park stadium, because they had not paid him his booking fee.
In a plot twist, Lefa Promotions, which is organising the event, responded with proof of payment receipts disputing the muso’s allegations, saying he was paid his dues.
Lefa Promotions’ Thabiso Mkhombo told Sunday World that they had a communication breakdown with the muso, real name Khutso Steven Kgatle, after he asked them for more money.
“At this point it is up to him if he wants to show up tonight, but if he does not, we will take it up the legal route after the festival when it is clear that he did not show up,” Mkhombo said.
He added that Monada was paid a total of R45 000. He said he paid him R20 000 at first for a song and then made another payment of R25 000 towards his performance booking, which was R50 000 for the night.
“He charged us R20 000 for the song. Then he charged us R50 000 for his performance. So all in one we paid him 45 000, which was R20 000 for the song and R25 000 for the performance bookings,” he said.
He added that the muso failed to deliver on the song they had paid for. They then assumed the money they paid for the song was going to cover for the performance booking.
However, King Monada disregarded this and requested his full booking fee.
In a statement released in response, the promoter said King Monada was taking advantage of them.
“We have tried by all means to sustain our relationship with King Monada but it seems like our Limpopo artist is continually taking advantage of our kindness by his poor relationship management conducts.
“Lefa Promotions and our mother company Mabele NKL Holdings have been working and supporting King Monada in all our events but it’s with great regret that King Monada decided to drop us after we paid him.”
Mkhombo said King Monada only paid them back a portion of the R45 000 payment made to him this week after he cancelled his performance.
The musician’s manager Albert Makwela was not immediately available for comment.
