Lehlohonolo Mayeza is certain that AmaZulu will not be pleased one bit about his character Leruo, saying the difficult part of filming was shooting sex scenes.
However, he said the intimacy coordinator came to his rescue.
Mayeza plays the role of Leruo, a Mosotho man in his early 30s who does not know much about urban life.
His ruling order of the day on Showmax’s Outlaws is to steal AmaZulu cattle but still keep in mind not to kill or hurt people.
He said he relates to Leruo’s story because he is a rural boy from the mountainous areas of Lesotho, and is used to riding horses and donkeys because they are the only mode of transport in that part of the world.
“I grew up in rural areas where people would steal cattle from AmaZulu. I know that story and I have seen it with my own eyes, for I used to herd animals where we were living, which was near the border of the two countries,” said Mayeza
In the story, Leruo brings heartbreak, and believes that the viewers are not going to like that part.
“I don’t think Zulu people are going to like my character, particularly the ones who are victims of cattle theft,” he said.
On the contrary, Leruo can show love, and some viewers are certainly going to warm up to that side of his character.
He said it was exciting working with legends he used to watch on TV, noting that he learnt a lot from each and every one of them.
“The greatest of them all was getting to work with Lillian Dube, Khotso Nkhatho, and Mmabatho Mogomotsi,” he said..
“It was such a blessing. It was my first experience to be on such a huge set, especially in another country. Handling guns and fighting stunts was a first as well.”
