Commercial radio station Gagasi FM has issued a firm statement refuting recent speculation regarding the alleged recruitment of popular presenter Selby “Selbeyonce” Mkhize.
The denial comes in response to an article published by Ilanga newspaper earlier on Thursday. It claimed that Mkhize had been offered an exorbitant fee to join the station.
Gagasi Fm has labelled these claims as baseless and speculative. It expressed deep concern over the potential reputational and commercial harm caused by such unfounded allegations.
Official statement
In its official statement, Gagasi FM emphasised that the rumours are entirely without merit.
“We wish to state unequivocally that these claims are entirely baseless and purely speculative. It is deeply concerning that the publication failed to consider the potential reputational and commercial harm such unfounded allegations could cause to both the individual named and our business,” the station said.
The statement highlighted its commitment to journalistic integrity. It urged media outlets like Ilanga to verify information before publication.
Mkhize, a well-known figure in the South African broadcasting industry, has not commented on the rumours. However, Gagasi FM’s swift response suggests an intent to protect both its brand and the individuals affected by the misinformation.
The station called on Ilanga to retract the speculative claims.
Media condemned
“We urge Ilanga and all media institutions to commit to accurate, responsible reporting. And we understand the damage that misinformation can inflict. We call on Ilanga to retract the speculative claims made in the article. And to issue an appropriate correction and apology to both the affected individual and Gagasi FM.”
This incident has sparked discussions among listeners and industry insiders. Many expressed support for Gagasi FM’s stance.
As the situation develops, the station remains focused on maintaining its credibility.
“Gagasi FM continues to stand by its values. It is committed to fostering trust within the community it serves,” the statement concluded.
