Singer Ntethelelo “Ntethe” Mposwa does not remember a day when he chose music because he grew up in a musical family.
Mposwa has been doing gospel music for the longest time and has released two albums during his time as a gospel singer.
Moving from gospel a big step
The singer, who is from Ingquza Hill local municipality in Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape, told Sunday World that moving from gospel music is a big step for him and his career.
“I was scared of being judged and of losing my following. I thought it would be more of a career suicide but I am happy that I took that step,” said Mposwa.
Mposwa won a Gospel Crown award, the National Ingoma award, and was awarded another accolade by the Eastern Cape arts and culture department for uplifting the province.
“I have been doing gospel music but I wanted to grow. I felt like I had reached the ceiling in gospel because I felt like I was limited and I knew that I could do more.”
He said when you do traditional gospel, people expect you to stick to the genre.
Working on a transition
Since 2017, he has been working on the transition with other artists. He only released his first Afro single in 2022 but has been doing gospel his entire life.
Mposwa is also the CEO of Ntethe Music Records which is published by Universal Music Publishing Group, and through the label he has developed and produced several artists across various genres.
Furthermore, he has also written songs for renowned artists including household names such as Berita and Amanda Black, among others.
The content of his music from his upcoming album is largely inspirational, with this second single, Uyandonwabisa, serving Afro Trap/Afro Pop melodies.
The song is complimented by his overwhelmingly powerful voice and Naimah’s unique soothing vocals.
