I was fortunate to find my calling at an early age – Black Coffee

Grammy award-winning artist Nkosinathi Maphumulo, popularly known as Black Coffee, is excited to be making history in New York next week.

Black Coffee will make history as the first South African DJ and producer to headline in  Madisson Square Gardens, New York.

In a press conference held at Altitude Beach in Fourways on Thursday ahead of his send-off party with Castle Lite, he said he had not really thought of Maddison Square.

Black Coffee said getting to Maddison Square had always been the plan. Starting off his career by making music at a very young age, he said there was no genre of music that he had not tried out.

“Some people do not get to experience their calling and some are lucky enough to find their calling. I was one of those fortunate enough to find their calling at an early age. For me I think my story is written somewhere, I am just following God’s steps. It may seem like a miracle but it’s written somewhere in the universe,” said Black Coffee.

The Grammy Award winner said he tried to do things for the right reasons, and it was never for other people to try and figure out what his next move was for him.

“A friend of mine two weeks ago reminded me of a time when we took a train from Washington to New York. When we got to the station facing the arena at Maddison Square, he said I said to him one day I am going to perform here.”

Black Coffee will feature South African and African talent to support him on the world’s most iconic stage. Some of the artists who will be part of the show are  Bucie, Msaki, Pansula & Ribatone, Shoba, and Mondli Ngcobo.
