Inimba lead actress Lunathi Mampofu has disclosed that while South Africa celebrated her for winning two Royalty Soapie Awards, she was broke and had sold her car and house so that she could go back home.
Mampofu, who has served as a casting director in Cape Town and Los Angeles in the US, stated on a Sunday World Engage episode that it is wonderful to be praised as an actress.
“I haven’t given myself time to celebrate because I’m always looking for more, not necessarily accolades, but you are working to earn money at the time. I remember when I won those awards; I was out of work for months, and I was broke.
“I recently had lost my house, car, and flat. In order to return to Cape Town with my daughter, I had recently sold my car and put my belongings in storage,” Mampofu said.
Because of her financial and emotional situation, the 38-year-old singer and aspiring fashion designer was both excited and emotional.
However, Mampofu claimed that this has demonstrated that God can appear when you least expect him to.
“If you as an actress have not gone through losing it all, then you are lucky. Some of us have gone through it more than once, and it is okay.
“You need to experience the ups and downs in life. Now I know that as an actor I need to save and also be business-minded.”
Daughter takes top priority
Managing a demanding job and a family is no easy task. Mampofu revealed that God has helped her raise her daughter.
Despite the challenges of being a single parent, she makes sure to look after her only daughter.
“I feel like I am reliving my life in my character Zoleka, and I find it so crazy because it is exactly what has happened in my life.
“I have brought up my daughter to be independent, and sometimes it is a selfish decision to take.
“However, it is important for her to learn to be more understanding of having the life that we have.”
In the gripping new telenovela Inimba, flighted on Mzansi Magic, Mampofu portrays Zoleka Mabandla.
