Fans of Skeem Saam are in for a treat as Macks Papo and Lesego Marakalla, the adored on-screen couple Marothi Maphuthuma and Rachel Kunutu, return to the soapie.
The show and channel announced their return in May, with Papo scheduled to make a reappearance on June 13 and Marakalla taking to the screen on June 10.
Driven by overwhelming fan demand, the return of the pair is expected to upend season 13 and pave the way for an exciting season 14.
In an exclusive interview with Sunday World, Papo shared his excitement about returning after a brief hiatus, which he described as a “special journey”.
“People speculated all kinds of conclusions about my absence, not knowing it was time out,” he said. “I come back stronger, eager, hungry, and full of emotions.”
Papo’s comeback is multifaceted; as part of his lucrative contract, he will train others in addition to acting.
“I don’t come cheap,” he asserted. “I’d rather starve than accept peanuts from production houses because I deliver my craft exceptionally.”

Marakalla, reprising her role as Rachel Kunutu, brings a darker, evolved character shaped by intense storyline experiences.
Papo praised her as an “amazing actress”, noting that their reunion felt like a “revival and renewal”.
