‘It’s not easy being a slay queen, some drown in debt,’ says Inno Morolong

Inno Morolong has never been one to shy away from the spotlight. The influencer, club promoter, and reality TV star has made headlines for both her glamorous lifestyle and fiery personality.

Now, she is prepared to share her perspective in Slay Queens, a daring new Showmax documentary series set to premiere on October 31.

Morolong has shared that she wanted to be part of the documentary because she has not actually told her life story.

“I hardly open up, but this show made me open up about many things. It’s also more about the lifestyle that I’m used to living, so it was easy for me to agree to be part of it,” she says.

The other side of Morolong

For Morolong, the series is more than just glitz and luxury; it’s a chance to show the world who she really is beyond the headlines.

“I’m always misunderstood. People always assume the worst, but this documentary made me show my other side, from humble beginnings to where I am now.

“I hope my story inspires young girls from small towns that if I can make it, they can also make it.”

As a single mother and entrepreneur navigating one of the most competitive industries in entertainment, Morolong says her journey has not been easy.

“In life it’s important to be patient; good things come to those who wait,” she says.

“I hope viewers learn that with hard work and dedication, you can achieve almost everything. Furthermore, it’s important to believe in God and put Him first in everything you do.”

But behind the glitz, she admits, lies a darker side of the so-called “slay queen” lifestyle.

“It is not easy being a slay queen. It takes a lot of money and time to maintain that high-standard look.

“Some girls fall into debt or end up stranded in foreign countries; others even face abuse or depression but hide it behind the flashy lifestyle.”

The term is unfairly vilified

Still, Morolong believes the term “slay queen” has been unfairly vilified.

“People think slay queens are high-class escorts or something like that. Even a hardworking woman like Beyoncé can look and be labelled a slay queen, but she’s also a wife and a mother.

“Some women just love to glam up and look good, and that doesn’t make them bad people,” says Morolong.

And when it comes to the role of men in this world, she is refreshingly honest.

“Men are naturally providers. When they feel like flashing money, they always want to be seen with women who look like slay queens.

“Most men do pay women to always look a certain way so they can shine.”

Slay Queens premieres on Showmax on October 31, with new episodes dropping every Friday until November 28.
