South African music duo Major League DJz are flying the Mzansi flag high abroad by representing the amapiano music genre.
The duo, composed of twin brothers Banele and Bandile Mbere, are most popular for pioneering amapiano, a subgenre of house music that came into fruition in South Africa in the mid-2010s.
They have described their sound as groovy and sexy house music with undertones of jazz.
Major League, this past weekend, was the first amapiano act billed at the world’s largest and most well-known dance music festival, Tomorrowland.
It is one of the biggest electronic music festivals held in the world, taking place in Belgium and attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors.
The historic set was preceded by their cover on DJ Mag as the first amapiano act.
“DJ Mag is the biggest DJ magazine, so it means a lot to be on the cover internationally,” It’s been a dream for us to be on the cover. We’ll treasure this moment,” shared Bandile.
In 2006, the brothers decided to do music on a professional level by being hosts of events and after-parties.
In late 2008, the twins began to play, and the process gave birth to the music group, Major League DJz. They have shared their music with music heavyweights on the international scene like Kid Cudi and Kanye West.
