Musician Lindokuhle Mgedeza, professionally known as Mlindo the Vocalist, has become the latest celebrity to be targeted by scammers. There have been many reports about scammers who will try just about anything to separate people from their money. The most common trend these days is scammers posing as celebrities on social media.
Impostor scammers pretend to be someone you trust to convince you to send them money. And that is exactly what celebrity impostors are trying to do.
Mlindo the Vocalist is also not spared. He has come forward to warn people of a fake Facebook account. Mlindo issued a statement on Thursday warning fans of the account created under his name.
Account hacked for 3 years
He also clarified that his Facebook account was hacked three years ago. Till this day, he has not been able to recover it. Currently the Facebook account has over 1 million followers.
“This account is not managed or endorsed by Mlindo or his management team. We urge all our fans and the general public to be cautious and not engage with this fraudulent account. Please do not provide any personal information or interact with any messages or posts from the account. They are not legitimate,” reads the statement.
Mlindo further stated that him and his team are taking immediate steps to report the account and have it removed. He also told fans that his only social media accounts were on Twitter, now known as X and Instagram.
Minister also had account hacked
In 2021 in a separate incident, Dr Blade Nzimande also suffered the same fate. He warned the public about a fake and misleading Facebook page that impersonates him.
Nzimande said the impostor misleads the public into believing that they are communicating with him. They did this by soliciting money to support a “worthy course of student funding”.
