Motene sues Mo, MacG and his team over ‘Satan’s child’ slur

Television actress Rosie Motene is suing funny man Mongezi “Toll A$$ Mo” Mahlangu and the hosts of the controversial Podcast and Chill with MacG.

The podcasters are Macgyver “MacG” Mukwevho, Solomzi “Sol” Phenduka and Duduzile Methula.

The Hotel Rwanda flick star has filed the lawsuit against the four in the Joburg High Court, where she is demanding R200 000 and an apology from Mahlangu for damaging her good name.

The former Generations thespian is also demanding an apology from Mukwevho, Phenduka and Methula.

The apology must be contained in a video clip that must be broadcast on the podcast for a period of 30 days.

Mahlangu is the first respondent, while Mukwevho, Phenduka and Methula are second, third and fourth respondents.

In court papers, which we have seen, the aggrieved Motene said during or about 2021, Mahlangu was charged with rape and sexual assault of popular catwalk queen, Lerato Moloi.

She said she was not subpoenaed to court to give evidence at Mahlangu’s trial, who was acquitted in 2022.

Mahlangu, she said, was later interviewed on December 8, 2022, on the podcast, which was viewed on YouTube by approximately 1.4-million people.

She said during the interview, Mahlangu called her “Koo beans” and “Satan’s child”.

This because, Motene said, Mahlangu claimed she had pressured the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to prosecute him for the alleged rape.

“The biggest b*tch to attack me. Biggest number one feminist f@&cking b*tch, Rosie Motene. Hmm. Ask any nigga. Ask any nigga will tell you. Koo beans!

“Ngwana Satan [Satan’s child]. Ask any nigga, ask any nigga who tell you. Koo beans. ” Mahlangu said.

Motene said Mahlangu went on to accuse her of exerting pressure on the NPA to prosecute him.

“She [Rosie Motene] was busy coaching Lerato. Tell them he raped you. Tell them! Tell them, tell them you want your day in court. Akenya pressure ko NPA [she put pressure on the NPA],” he said.

Mahlangu said the NPA did not succumb to Motene’s pressure and refused to prosecute him.

Motene said Mahlangu’s words “Koo beans” and “ngwana Satan” were derogatory, wrongful, defamatory and injurious to her dignity as were intended and understood by the public to mean that she had unlawfully colluded with NPA and maliciously attacked him.

“As a result of the defamation, the plaintiff has been damaged in her reputation and dignity and has suffered damages in the sum of R200 000.

“Wherefore the plaintiff prays for judgment against the defendants, jointly and severally, the one paying, the others to be absolved,” read the papers.

Motene is also asking the court to issue an injunction to order Mahlangu to post a video and apologise to her on social media and on the podcast.

The apology, she said, had to read as follows: “I hereby retract the statements I made regarding Rosie Motene on 8 December 2022, on the ‘Podcast and Chill with MacG’ podcast.

“Ms Motene has not worked with the NPA and has no control over their decisions or actions. As an activist and survivor, Ms Motene simply provided support to Lerato Moloi. I apologise unreservedly to Rosie Motene for the pain and suffering my statements caused, including the defamatory insults and the rape and death threats sent from my fans.”

She wants Mukwevho, Phenduka and Methula, to also apologise for caricaturing her. The apology, she said, had to read as follows: “We hereby apologise for broadcasting the defamatory statements made by Mr Mahlangu regarding Rosie Motene on 8 December 2022, on the ‘Podcast and Chill with MacG’ podcast.

“We had not confirmed the facts beforehand, as we should have.

“We further apologise to our fans for the false statements and will strive to verify content for our shows before broadcasting any content in future.”

She demands that the apologies be beamed on the podcast for a period of 30 days and must be accessible by her on her social media.
