Popular pop artists Shebeshxt and Kharishma and gospel musician Solly Moholo left their fans high and dry when they failed to pitch up for their paid gig in Limpopo over the Easter weekend.
Shebeshxt, who is taking the industry by storm with his smash hit Ambulance, Kharishma, who is dominati-ng the dance floors with her blockbuster Matome and Moholo were booked by businessman Jeffrey Malatji to perform at his opulent joint, Ejays Lounge, in Moime village outside Tzaneen on Saturday last week.
But the three crooners left a legion of their fans yawning after they failed to show up without extending an apology to them or the businessman.
The failure to show up opened Malatji up for a possible attack by the artists’ phalanx of fans who descended on the joint to be entertained by the objects of their obsession.
Speaking to Sunday World, Malatji said he paid Shebeshxt to come and strut his stuff at the event, which drew thousands of patrons.
He said he hired a driver to escort Shebeshxt from Mogwadi, formerly Dendron, where he had a gig, before coming to belt his songs at his event.
He said the driver escorted Shebeshxt after his gig from Dendron. But while they were driving to his waterhole, Shebeshxt pulled a fast one on Malatji’s driver, when he Shumachered and lost him.
Despite disappearing into thin air, they still hoped that Shebeshxt would appear at the show but dololo.
As if that was not enough, Malatji said Kharishma also marooned her fans, who wanted to eat from the palm of her hand.
He said when they tried to contact her when the time of her performance arrived, her cellphone was off.
He said that when they contacted her the following day, she told them she had forgotten about the event!
Malatji also said the award-winning gospel mega star Solly Moholo arrived on Sunday morning after his battalion of fans had long departed for their respective homes.
The sheepish Moholo, he said, apologised for his late arrival.
“There were too many people who came there to see them perform but were disappointed when they failed to show up,” he said.
Their failure to honour the agreement not only put his business at risk but also left a smudge on his reputation.
“People could have resorted to violence and damaged my property because of them,” said Malatji.
“Remember [that] you are dealing with people who were not sober, but luckilythe show was for free and luckily, no violence broke out.
“But some people think we were lying when we said they [the artists] were coming,” said Malatji.
He said he wanted to be refunded because he does not want to resort to legal action against the artists.
Moholo apologised to his fans for failing to show up on time at the event. He said that he will be at the venue on April 20 this year.
Shebeshxt and Kharishma could not be reached for comment at the time of going to print.
