Actress Nomzamo Mbatha spreads body positivity this Women’s Month

Shaka Ilembe actress Nomzamo Mbatha (Nxumalo) has secured yet again the deal to be the brand ambassador for popular denim company Levi’s Curve.

The 35-year-old model, actress, humanitarian, and brand ambassador has been working with the brand since 2019 to spread body positivity through the Levi’s Curvy edition.

To celebrate the launch, Levi’s and Mbatha hosted an intimate brunch.

They gave guests a glimpse of the new design and created space for conversations.

The celebration relocated to the Levi’s store at Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront for a store relaunch.

Honours women in all shapes

The campaign celebrated women in all shapes and sizes.

“What an incredible series of events to officially launch the 501 Curve in South Africa. Surrounded by some of the coolest, most authentic, and most dynamic people,” she gushed.

This deal is personal for Mbatha, as she looks back at her years as a university student.

“I began as a Levi’s brand promoter during my university days,” she said.

“Today, as the returning face of the Levi’s Curvy campaign, and I’m embodying a full-circle moment.”

This Women’s Month, she wants women to embrace their unique shapes and forms.

“This makes sense for our women who want to celebrate their curves,” she said.

Goodwill ambassador

The actress from KwaMashu, Durban, is not only an influencer but serves as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

Mbatha holds a degree in accounting from the University of Cape Town.

She has been running the Nomzamo Lighthouse Foundation since 2015. Through it, her goal is to provide youth and women with opportunities that break the cycle of poverty through entrepreneurship and grants.

Mbatha has opened up about dealing with body image and some insecurities.

She expressed how being in the limelight does not mean being naturally born with confidence.

“I always have eyes on me, and that comes with pressure,” she said.

“I am still a woman at the end of the day. And I want other women not to feel pressure into having a certain body type.”

After accepting herself, Mbatha said things became easier.

“The more you force yourself into something you are not, the more inauthentic you become.”
