Popular MC, comedian, and DJ Peter “Mashata” Mabuse will be laid to rest on Sunday in Akasia, Pretoria.
Mabuse was shot and killed in the early hours of Sunday in Soshanguve, about 30km north of Pretoria.
In a statement, the family announced that Mabuse’s memorial service will take place at the Tshwane University of Technology, Pretoria West Stadium, on Thursday.
Mabuse was also a staff member at the university, where he served as a residence advisor for both the university’s Pretoria West and Ga-Rankuwa campuses.
Heartfelt condolences
Earlier in the week, the university sent its condolences to the family.
Also paying respects to Mabuse was Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club, which said in a statement: “The chairman and the Motsepe family, the board of directors, technical team, players, management, staff, supporters of Mamelodi Sundowns FC, and the entire Yellow Nation, express their deepest condolences to the family and friends as we mourn the loss of the multi-talented Peter ‘Mashata’ Mabuse, who served as an announcer at the Mamelodi Sundowns games.
“We pray that the almighty comforts and strengthens the Mabuse family, his fans, friends, and colleagues in the entertainment industry.”
Hail of bullets
The family said that it would allow the people who want to pay their respects to drop off the flowers in Mabopane Block U on Saturday afternoon.
When they encountered the hail of bullets, Mabuse and his friend were in a car, according to Gauteng police spokesperson, Colonel Noxolo Kweza.
“[The] shooting involved two men aged 46 and 45 during the early hours of today [Sunday]. One victim died in the hospital, while the other was injured,” said Kweza at the time.
“The two victims were driving near TUT [Tshwane University of Technology] in Soshanguve when shots were fired at their vehicle.
“The suspects fled, and police are following several leads.”
Humorous personality
According to media reports, Mabuse was deejaying at an entertainment establishment, 3.5km away from where he was shot on Sunday morning.
The Tshwane University of Technology’s north campus, which is well-known for being crowded on weekends due to the nightlife, is located on Aubrey Matlala Street, where he was shot.
