Media personality Phelo Bala has returned to Joburg to reclaim his space after a backlash from the entertainment industry.
Bala made the headlines after it was revealed on The Bala Family reality show that he lost an acting gig on Gqeberha: The Empire after he overslept following a weekend of heavy drinking.
This time, the muso has collaborated with former Idols contestant Zanoxolo King for the release of Ndiyayazi on Friday, an afro-pop single that aims to help both artists reclaim their space in the industry.
Bala said he was still focused on his spiritual and emotional healing journey when he received a call from King asking him to collaborate on the song. He said this was a changing moment as he realised that his voice was still relevant in the industry.
The last born of the Bala family said he did not imagine that his voice would blend well with that of King. He said was excited to find that, not only did he manage to heal, he was ready to be welcomed back.
He said everyone was rushing his self-introspection and healing journey, but he always knew that a day will come when he would feel rejuvenated enough to start creating his magic once again.
“The break I needed, I had. People push you to where they think you should be, but it is important not to fall into the pressures of this would and focus on what you know you need.
“I didn’t think I would feel like this about Joburg because I truly hated this place when I left. I was depressed and hopeless, but now I still feel depressed but I have hope,” said Bala.
King said he has always dreamt of a hit single and could now feel that the collaboration with Bala would take the song to greater heights.
