Relebogile Mabotja shines with triple nominations at Basadi In Music Awards

Relebogile Mabotja, one of South Africa’s most dynamic media personalities, has earned three prestigious nominations at the 2025 Basadi In Music Awards, cementing her status as a trailblazer across radio, television, and podcasting.
Recognised as Entertainment Radio Presenter, Entertainment TV Producer, and Podcast Presenter of the Year, Mabotja’s versatile talent and heartfelt storytelling have captured the industry’s attention, resonating deeply with audiences nationwide.
“Being recognised across these platforms feels deeply affirming,” Mabotja told Sunday World.

Gift to self

“I have worked across these platforms for years, often grinding quietly behind the scenes. So to be acknowledged for all three, especially by a platform that celebrates women, is such a gift.”
The Basadi Awards, known for uplifting female talent, hold special significance for Mabotja. She hopes her nominations inspire other women to “take up space without holding back.”
Mabotja’s radio show, 702 Afternoons with Relebogile Mabotja (1 – 3pm weekdays), is a cornerstone of her connection with Mzansi.
“I speak to the listener, not at them,” she says, a philosophy that has earned her a nod for Entertainment Radio Presenter.
Her ability to share real, messy moments builds trust, making her a beloved voice in South African homes.

TV production

In television, Mabotja’s production prowess shines. As an executive producer, she made history in January 2025 with Showmax’s first live-streamed concert featuring Grammy winner Tyla. It was broadcast to 44 African countries.
Her work on Unpacked with Relebogile Mabotja and Crown Chasers is monumental. It reflects her obsession with the “why” behind stories, capturing emotional nuance.
“This nomination tells me the sleepless nights and challenges were worth it,” she reflects on her Entertainment TV Producer nod.
Her podcast, The Relebogile Mabotja Podcast, offers an intimate space for unfiltered conversations. It was inspired by a desire for deeper dialogue free from traditional media constraints.
“It is like a friend over a cup of tea,” Mabotja says. She describes episodes with guests like Thabo “T-Bose” Mokwele and Melanie Bala that explore resilience and co-parenting. This authenticity earned her a Podcast Presenter nomination.

Boundaries and self-care

Mabotja’s journey has not been without hurdles. Balancing her multifaceted career with motherhood has taught her to confront burnout.
“It is easy to give until you are running on fumes,” she admits, emphasising her ongoing commitment to boundaries and self-care. Inspired by women whose struggles have gone unseen, she aims to amplify their voices. This makes her nominations a milestone in her mission to empower.
Looking ahead, Mabotja dreams of taking her work globally while creating “meaningful content that moves people”. With projects like Disney+’s Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire and the Shaka Ilembe Season 2 Gold Carpet Experience under her belt, her future is bright.
“These nominations are a moment to whisper, ‘Well done,’ to every version of myself that kept going,” she says.
