Rousing welcome for world-acclaimed BET award winner Makhadzi

The internationally acclaimed vocalist Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, also known as Makhadzi, touched down at OR Tambo International Airport on Wednesday morning.

Family, friends, colleagues, and fans welcomed Makhadzi, who recently won a BET award, with open arms. Her grandparents, dressed up in Tshivenda attire, were also in attendance.

Thomas Ralivhona, Makhadzi’s father, expressed his pride as a father while speaking to Sunday World, his smile widening with delight.

“I am beyond thrilled and proud of my daughter’s accomplishments. I wish her all the best in her career and hope she continues to soar to even greater heights, said Ralivhona.

We expect more from her

As per Makhadzi’s aunt, Livhuwani Calphonia Nesengani, the family has shared a moment of fame in this manner.

“We are very proud of her, from playing in the dusty village to winning a BET award. How far can you go? We still expect more from her, and we still want to see her grow,” she said.

The newly appointed Minister of Sport, Arts, and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, was not present at the welcoming ceremony of the Number 1 hitmaker.

Makhadzi recently spoke up about her financial difficulties.

She told the Podcast and Chill team that she borrowed money from a mashonisa (loan shark) in order to afford plane tickets to Los Angeles, Carlifonia.

Indebted to the taxman

After her victory, the Zwivhuya hitmaker revealed that she is going through a lot and that she owes the South African Revenue Service (SARS).

“It is not a secret; I was in the newspapers whatever, I think, last year somewhere. I don’t know who sold me out because I feel like these SARS things — it’s like someone goes to spice you to tarnish you,” she said.

On Wednesday, Makhadzi said she hopes artists will get more backing in the future.

“I hope we as artists will get more support, and my booking fee will obviously increase now that I am an international award-winning artist.”
