Musician Thokozani “L’vovo Derrango” Ndlovu may have misled his followers when he accused Metro FM of not playing his song AmaXhosa.
The track marks a strong comeback for Ndlovu, who is currently recovering from a stroke. It was released on March 28, featuring a collaboration with Zakes Bantwini, and also includes contributions from Okmalumkoolkat and Nana Atta.
Prior to the release, L’vovo had been urging his fans to purchase the song and appealed to radio compilers to include it in their playlists.
Receiving airplay on most radio stations
As it stands, AmaXhosa is receiving solid airplay on most radio stations — except Metro FM. The station has not played the track, prompting Ndlovu to call them out.
Taking to social media, he listed 26 radio stations that have played the song, notably omitting Metro FM.
“Only radio stations. Not playing AmaXhosa, such a big song @metrofmsa. Ngicela ningicelele uxolo if ngabona Rangonation uthando lunye,” he wrote.
Loosely translated: “These are the radio stations that play my song. Metro FM has not played such a big song. If I wronged them, I’d like to apologise. Rangonation, one love.”
Following the post, his followers began criticising Metro FM.
Fans not impressed
Chris commented: “Metro is dead.”
Goodstaff Skhosana added: “They’re so full of themselves.”
However, SABC spokesperson Mmoni Ngubane cleared the air on the matter. She revealed that Ndlovu had not submitted the song to Metro FM at the time of his complaint. Ngubane confirmed that the station has now received the track, but it will go through the usual review process.
SABC clears the air
“The SABC can confirm that at the time of this tweet, Thokozani ‘L’vovo’ Ndlovu had NOT submitted this song to Metro FM. The artist has since submitted the track. And it will follow the standard procedure for music submissions to our radio stations. The artist is free to follow up directly with the station,” said Ngubane.
