Skeem Saam actress Harriet Manamela has revealed that she has recovered after having to undergo hip surgery at the beginning of the year.
The soap opera, which airs on SABC1 at 7.30pm weekdays, revealed in February that Florence Masebe would be stepping into the shoes of Manamela as Meike Maputla.
The channel announced that Manamela would be absent from the show for a while due to ill-health and that Masebe would start appearing on the show on May 15.
Manamela, who portrays Meikie, the matriarch of the Maputla household, expressed her gratitude for the well-wishes for her recuperation on Monday.
Thankful for well-wishes
“Even though there was no clear explanation why I had to be off the screen, production had to find a sit-in for me,” she wrote.
“Your support and wishing me well humble my heart, and you all are much appreciated.
“Now that production is on a shooting break, it is more time to enjoy seeing people and catching up. My family, as always, derives its strength from your love.
“My colleagues checking up on me as often as you do melts my heart, and to my friends, taking moments to enjoy the sunshine with me is priceless.”
Call of duty
Manamela also took time to thank Masebe for responding to the call of duty when she was asked to step in for her on the show.
“You responded to the call of duty and did what you knew best,” she wrote.
“Being one of South Africa’s most powerful performers, we definitely look forward to enjoying your episodes and your strong abilities to bring characters to life.”
