Staying authentic keeps Sphectacula, DJ Naves in the game

Staying authentic in what they do has got Sphectacula and DJ Naves this far in the entertainment industry, they say.

The duo, popularly known as Kings of the Weekend, has been entertaining fans for more than a decade while growing their careers by leaps and bounds.

Speaking to Sunday World recently, they said: “We are not trying to be anyone, we are not trying to chase the next cool thing. We are still the same people from day one.

“We enjoy what we do and it comes out in everything that we do, whether it’s radio, music and events.”

Their sound, they shared, is inspired by energy in everything that they do and knowing their place in the line-up.

“As an artist, you need to do your research on who is playing before and after you. You need to try to find your pocket and give people a good time.”

Nothing beats hard work, dedication

They said nothing comes easy, noting that they are fortunate because they both come from similar backgrounds.

“We both went to boys’ schools, our moms are strict and so our upbringing has played a pivotal role.

“Nothing beats hard work, dedication, and setting goals that you both can go for even if they are not the same for both of you, the support will still be there.

“The aim is not to try and outshine each other, because if one of us wins, we both win.”

They shared that their partnership is more than just work, saying it is shaped around brotherhood. They are also godparents to each other’s children and they believe they are family to each other.

“We started off in the entertainment industry as individuals but it just came together. We always say that what God puts together, let no man take apart.

“We are definitely not about to split any time soon as a duo.”

They added that they are currently putting together a TV show which will be ready for screening in 2024.

They also keep busy by recording more episodes from their podcast, as well as recording new music.
